Jean-Baptiste Isabey (1767-1855)

• Was a French artist.
• Isabey was born in Nancy.
• At the age of 19, following some lessons from Francois Dumont, Isabey became a pupil of Jacques-Louis David.
• Isabey was hired by the Palace of Versailles to paint portraits of the dukes of Angoulême and Berry.
• Patronized by Josephine and Napoleon Bonaparte, he arranged the ceremonies of their coronation.
• He also painted a portrait of Louis XVIII.
• Napoleon III granted him a pension, and the cross of commander of the Legion of Honor.
• The displayed painting is a crop from: François Gérard, Jean-Baptiste Isabey, miniature painter, and his daughter Alexandrine, as a child, later Mrs. Cicéri, 1795.
