• He was the son of the eminent Flemish Renaissance painter Pieter Brueghel the Elder.
• His mother was the daughter of the prominent Flemish Renaissance artists Pieter Coecke van Aelst.
• He was a close friend and frequent collaborator with Peter Paul Rubens.
• The artist was nicknamed "Velvet" Brueghel, "Flower" Brueghel, and "Paradise" Brueghel.
• Jan Brueghel the Elder's son-in-law was David Teniers the Younger.
• The displayed painting is a crop from: Animal Studies (Donkey, Cats, Monkeys), ca. 1616.
