Francesco Agnesini (1616-1662)
• Was an Italian painter and sculptor.
• Born in Carrara in 1616.
• He was a pupil of Alessandro Algardi with Francesco Baratta and Domenico Guidi.
• He worked in Carrara and in various other cities of Italy.
• In Naples on 11 April 1637 he was included in the guild of marble workers and sculptors.
• For the cathedral of Sarzana he executed two small statues of Saints Lawrence and Andrew for the altar of the chapel of the relics.
• In Verona he made an Adonis for the garden of Count Verità.
• In the church of S. Paolo in Ferrara he painted the bust of a Count Manfredi (1659).
• He was then in the service of the Duke of Mantua (1661), for whom he sculpted busts of emperors, and of Count Alfonso II Gonzaga di Novellara.
• The date and place of his death are unknown.
