Bonifacio Bembo, active ca. (1442–died before 1482)
• Was an Italian painter and miniaturist.
• Born in Brescia and educated in style gothic practiced by his father Giovanni, also a painter like his brother Benedetto.
• After contacting Giorgios Gemistos Plethon he absorbed idealism neoplatonic, manifest in the symbolism of his famous letters tarot painted for the Duke of Milan Filippo Maria Visconti in 1442.
• He worked mainly for the dukes of Milan thanks to whom he was able to develop intense artistic activity in Pavia.
• Among his works are the 289 illustrations of the Palatine Codex 556 in which are included the History of Tristan and Lanzarote.
