Domenico Maria Canuti (1625–1684)

• Was an Italian painter of the Baroque period.
• Canuti was born in Bologna.
• He began his apprenticeship in the workshop of Guido Reni, and then was a disciple of Guercino.
• From 1650 to 1660 and also in the 70s of the seventeenth century he worked in Rome where he painted the Apotheosis of St. Dominic in the church of Saints Dominic and Sixtus.
• He was often under the patronage of the Olivetans.
• He participated, together with Francesco Cozza and Carlo Maratta, in the decoration of Palazzo Altieri and Palazzo Colonna. 
• Back in Bologna, he completed the frescoes of San Michele in Bosco and Palazzo Pepoli Campogrande as well as in the Ducal Palace in Mantua.
Giuseppe Maria Crespi and Giovanni Antonio Burrini worked in his workshop.
• Canuti was also an engraver and his works include portraits of Ludovico, Agostino and Annibale Carracci.
