Anónimo cuzqueño (active during XVI, XVII, XVIII, and XIX cent.)

• Anónimo cuzqueño refers to the many unsigned painters and workshop-produced works from the Cuzco School (Escuela Cuzqueña) — the major colonial-Andean painting tradition centered in Cuzco from the late 16th through the 19th century (and with local continuities later).
• Many Cuzco works are unsigned; artists are therefore cataloged as "Anónimo cuzqueño" or given provisional names (e.g., Master of the Calamarca, Master of the Immaculate Conception).
• Produced in ecclesiastical and atelier workshops serving colonial churches, confraternities, and local elites; indigenous and mestizo painters trained in Spanish techniques.
• Materials & format, Oil on canvas or wood panel, polychrome and gilt retablos, copies and formulaic compositions adapted from European prints and Spanish models.
