Tomás Cabrera (born c. 1721-1810)

• Was an Argentinian painter, sculptor and architect.
• Born in Salta.
• Before 1767 he began to work as an artist in the city of San Juan.
• He worked there in the renovations of the church of the Company of Jesus.
• Between 1773 and 1775 he participated in the expedition to Chaco led by the governor of Tucumán, Gerónimo de Matorras.
• In these circumstances he witnessed the peace treaty concluded with chief Paykin, head of the Toba and Mocoví indigenous groups.
• It has been established by specialists that, based on the drawings of engineer Julio Ramón de César, Cabrera devised the mural painting Governor Matorras' peace with Chief Paykin.
• In 1780, Cabrera was back in Salta where he executed a paste Face of the Virgin of Candelaria de Siancas.
• In 1782 he modeled an image of Saint Joseph and the Child.
• In 1785 he painted, also in Salta, a painting of the Virgin of Mercy. 
• In 1786 he made an oil painting of The mercy and an image of Our Lady of the Miracle of Salta.
• After 1786 he returned to San Juan, where he remained until 1810, the year in which he returned to Salta.
• The date and circumstances of his death are unknown.
