Jacques van den Coornhuuse (1529-c.1584-1594)

• Was a Flemish South Netherlandish painter.
• He was born in Veurne.
• Van den Coornhuuse was accepted as a freemaster in the Bruges Guild of Saint Luke in 1556.
• Only one large painting by him is known.
• This concerns the 'Last Judgment' from 1578, which was commissioned by the provost of Sint-Donaas, and which he freely copied after the work of the same name by Jan Provoost from 1525.
• He is best known for his watercolors, rediscovered in the 20th century, which, after a succession of owners, ended up in Krakow during the Second World War and are kept in the Bibliotheka Jagiellonska.
• This concerns approximately 1,600 watercolours, mainly images of plants and flowers, which were ordered by Karel van Sint-Omaars and which he executed with a number of collaborators.
• He died in Brugge after 1584
