Baltazar Gomes Figueira (1604 – 1674)
• Was a Portuguese painter.
• Baltazar Gomes Figueira was the son of Paulo Gomes Figueira and Luísa Lopes.
• His education passed through the city of Seville, where he pursued a military career and where he married.
• It was there where he had contact with other artists, from Herrera el Viejo, Francisco de Zurbarán and Juan del Castillo.
• He was an employee of the House of Bragança, in the court of D. João IV and D. Afonso VI.
• There he had the functions of painter and evaluator of works of art.
• In the Évora Museum, there is a still life section of the painter and his daughter. • In the Church of Mercy of Peniche his art estate contains works by Baltazar and Josefa.
