Gerardus Duyckinck (1695-1746)
• Was an American and a third generation painter-craftsman of Dutch descent.
• Gerardus Duyckinck I was born in New York City in 1695.
• He was the grandson of Evert “the Glazier” Duyckinck, who emigrated from Holland to New Amsterdam in 1635.
• In 1731, Gerardus was declared a “freeman” in his profession, which, in addition to painting portraits, seems to have included gilding frames and making looking-glasses.
• Duyckinck died in Kingston, New York, on 26 July 1746.
