• Was an Italian painter of the late-Renaissance period.
• Casolani was born in the ancient castle of Mensano near Casole d’Elsa in Tuscany.
• He was the pupil of Arcangelo Salimbeni and of Cristoforo Roncalli.
• He received his first independent commission in 1576, for a painting for a chapel in the Duomo of Siena.
• His works are principally in the churches of Siena, but are also found in Naples and Genoa.
• Casolani married in 1585 Aurelia Rustici, daughter of the painter Lorenzo Rustici.
• His son, Ilario Casolani was also a painter.
• Among the pupils of Casolani are Bernardino Capitelli, Sebastiano Folli, and Giovanni Biliverti.
• Casolani painted mostly for churches and for private patrons in and around Siena.
