Le Nain Brothers, c. (1588-1677)


• The three Le Nain brothers were French painters. 
• Antoine, c. (1588-48), Mathie, c. (1607-77) and  Louis (1593 - 1648).
 • The early paintings of the Le Nains were religious.
• The Le Nains's interest in genre and peasant subjects began around 1640.
• In 1648 the three brothers were received into the Académie de peinture et de sculpture.
• The brothers also produced miniatures and portraits. 
• The displayed painting is a crop from: Le Nain Brothers possibly by Louis Le Nain, The Charrette, about 1641.
