Jacopo da Pontormo (Jacopo Carucci) (1494 – 1557)

• Was an Italian Mannerist painter and portraitist.
• He was from the Florentine School.
• Pontormo painted in and around Florence, often supported by Medici patronage.
• A foray to Rome, largely to see Michelangelo's work, influenced his later style.
• The displayed painting is a crop from fresco: Vertumnus and Pomona in a lunette, 1519-20 by Pontormo at the Medici country villa at Poggio a Caiano.
