Jasper van der Lanen (c. 1585 – after 1626)

• Was a Flemish landscape painter.
• He was registered as a pupil of the obscure painter Nicolaas Geerts in the guild year 1607.
• He became master of the Antwerp Guild of St. Luke in 1615.
• In 1624 he married Elisabeth Rombouts.
Abraham Govaerts acted as one of the witnesses at the wedding.
• After the premature death of Abraham Govaerts van der Lanen was one of the artists who were tasked with completing the works left unfinished by Govaerts.
• The time of death of Lanen is not known, it is believed he died in Antwerp sometime between 1626 and 1644.
• Jasper van der Lanen is known for his wooded landscapes with figures representing mythological or biblical stories or pastoral scenes.
• His work was only rediscovered in the mid-20th century.
