Lucas van Doetecum, active (1554–72, died before 1589)

• Was a Netherlandish engraver-cartographer artist.
• The brothers Jan and Lucas left Deventer for Antwerp.
• In Antwerp they worked for the great publishers Hieronymus Cock and Gerard de Jode. 
• The Van Doetecum brothers had developed a special technique of etching, so closely resembling the quality of engraving that their prints have been frequently described as engravings.
• In 1564 or 1565 Joannes and his brother Lucas van Doetecum are believed to have engraved 72 heads attributed to Pieter Brueghel the Elder that followed this paired arrangement.
