Maestro Francesco (active ca. 1350-99)

• Was an Italian painter.
• The artist previously known as 'Maestro Francesco' or 'Francesco Fiorentino' was re-named 'Maestro del Cristo Docente' following an article by Eve Borsook in which the artist's eponymous work in the church of Santa Maria a Quarto outside Florence was published for the first time.
• The altarpiece, which is signed 'Francesco' and dated 1391, shows The Madonna and Child in Glory with Saints John the Baptist and Nicholas of Bari and the predella shows Christ before members of the Florentine Signoria, amongst which sits the painter himself.
