Philips Koninck (1619-1688)

• Was a Dutch landscape painter.
•  He was a younger brother of Jacob Koninck.
• De Koninck was the son of the jeweler Aert Coninx.
• In the late 1640s, De Koninck, began to paint panoramas, his canvases divided in half, horizontally, between equal measures of earth and sky.
• Several of his works have been falsely attributed to Rembrandt and many more to his nephew Salomon de Koninck, a disciple of Rembrandt.
• He was also the uncle of the painters Jacob II and Daniel Koninck.
• The displayed painting is a crop from: Philips Koninck, Distant View with Cottages along a Road, 1655.
