Crispijn de Passe the Elder (1564–1637)  

• Was a Dutch engraver and print publisher.
• Crispijn van de Passe I was born in Arnemuiden in Zeeland.
• He trained and worked in Antwerp.
• By 1585 he was a member of the artists' Guild of Saint Luke.
• By 1589 had fled via Aachen to Cologne; 1611 to Utrecht.
• Crispijn married wife's niece of Maerten de Vos.
• He was a father of Simon, Magdalena, Crispin II and Willem.
• Four of Crispijn I's children were also notable engravers for the family business, as was his grandson Crispijn III.
