Robert Salmon (1775-1844)
• Was an American maritime artist painter, active in both England and America.
• Salmon completed nearly 1,000 paintings.
• He is considered the Father of American Luminism.
• Living in a small hut on Marine Railway Wharf overlooking Boston Harbor.
• Salmon prospered as a marine painter, accepting commissions to paint ship portraits.
• During the growth of Boston Harbor in the first half of the century, Salmon painted between 300-400 paintings of the Harbor.
• He was an eccentric, solitary and irascible man.
