Antonie van Steenwinckel (active 1671 - 1688)

Was a South Netherlandish, Danish painter, tapestry designer, art collector and art restorer.
• Son of Hans van Steenwinkel II and Trine Willum Hübers.
• His family emigrated to Denmark at the end of the 16th century.
• From 1671 onwards he delivered paintings to the Danish king and restored older paintings, mostly at Rosenborg Castle.
• Painted a series of designs for tapesrties that had to memorate the victories of Christian V during the Scanian War.
• Royal portrait painter from 1681-1688.
• In 1681 he received annual salary which from 1685 was increased to 600 rdl.
• In particular, he seems to have been very employed at Rosenborg.
• The largest order for this has probably been seven of a total of twelve cartons for the great wallpaper cycle in the long hall with representations of Christian V's victories in the Scanian war.
