Franz Timmermann (c.1515; † after 1540)

• Was a German painter of the early Renaissance.
• Franz Tymmermann was born in Hamburg around 1515.
• In 1538 the Hamburg council sent him because of his proven talent to Wittenberg for training with the painter and mayor of Wittenberg Lucas Cranach the Elder.
• He committed himself in writing that he would after the training without the knowledge and consent of the council not be allowed to settle anywhere except Hamburg.
• That goes from the Hamburg city accounting book (Libri expositorum) from the time in which travel expenses as well as the cost of clothing and boots are listed.
• In 1539 Franz Tymmermann sent the council a painting.
• His training seems to have ended in 1541, as the council sent him money for the return journey and for clothing and money for a painting.
• In the account book he is already referred to as the painter of the council.
