Georg Anton Abraham Urlaub (1744; † 1788)


• Was a Franconian painter of the Baroque period.
• Georg Anton Abraham Urlaub received painting lessons from his father.
• He worked first in Würzburg, then in Bamberg, until he moved to Nuremberg in 1770.
• There he was able to live for six months with the city court clerk Johann Carl Ludwig.
• Urlaub remained in Nuremberg for another eight years and went to Augsburg in 1779.
• In Augsburg he became a member of the Imperial Franciscan Academy of Fine Arts and Sciences in 1781.
• From 1784 Urlaub worked as an electoral court painter in Mainz.
• Urlaub painted exclusively in oil and pastel and mainly portraits.
• When the French playwright De Beaunoir visited the collection of the Elector and Archbishop Friedrich Karl Joseph von Erthal in Mainz in 1789, he noted that "the heads are of fire and expression" and "striking and full of life".
