Jan Joris van Vliet (about 1610-about 1640)
• Was a Dutch Painter, draughtsman and etcher.
• He was active between 1628 and 1637 in Leiden.
• In 1632 he visited Antwerp and he worked also in Delft.
• Van Vliet entered Rembrandt's studio about 1630-31.
• No paintings are known to him, but he was important as an etcher.
• At least some of his etchings were apparently executed under Rembrandt's close supervision.
• In addition to etchings after Rembrandt's drawings and paintings, van Vliet also executed a few etchings after Jan Lievens and Joris van Schooten.
• He made a popular print series called "the beggars" and signed his prints "JG Vliet fec".
